Shared Tour To Central Provinces Of Los Santos, Las Tablas, Chitre Folklore And Our Traditions

Our central provinces offer the best exhibitions of our traditions. For years, and many generations they have dedicated themselves to making our beautiful national attire called “LA POLLERA,” this is the typical attire of non-Indigenous Panamanian women. It is composed of two separate pieces and made with fine fabrics. This attire originated from Spain and worn by Spanish ladies who arrived in our country in the 16th and 17th centuries accompanied by their merchant husbands who came on commercial business.

During this tour we will visit one of the artisans who will explain to us the different production techniques, the process it takes to make our national attire and give us an idea of the cost.

Tied with our tradition of the Pollera are our drums! The drums set the rhythm and are the essence of the typical dances of our country. We have the snare drum, the pujador drum and the chiming drum. All handmade by artisans residing in the central provinces, whom from a piece of wood they created a cubic shape to achieve the necessary percussion.

From there we jump into the festivities of the dirty devils, which were extremely popular during the Corpus Christi Festival. This festival established by the Spanish during their colonization to scare the Indigenous people and get them to follow their beliefs. We will be visiting one of the artisans who makes the colorful masks that give these characters their amazing looks.

This is a cultural, artisanal, and gastronomic tour. When visiting the central provinces, you’ll be able to feast on everything from our famous Chitré bread to our famous Toldo salad. It’s a tour designed for those who live in Panama and want to know more about our culture and feel more a part of it.
