When learning about the history of Panama, we must go back to its beginnings. We start this tour with a visit to the archaeological site of Panama Viejo where the first ruins, founded by the Spaniards on August 15, 1519, are located.

From that moment and thanks to its strategic location, Panama appears on the map of trade routes as a territory used for international transit. Since the time this city was founded, it became a vital point where expeditions departed and returned for the conquest and colonization of the Spaniards. This city was an obligatory transit point for shipments of gold and riches from all over the Pacific coast that were being sent to Spain. This awakened the greed of pirates; therefore the city was attacked on several occasions, the most important one of those attacks being that one in 1671 that was caused by Henry Morgan, in turn leaving the city in ruins.

Onto the next part of this tour, we’ll drive about 8 kilometers and will be visiting the Casco Antiguo, the name given to this area where Panama City was moved in 1673. Once here we will be doing our walking part of this tour. We will visit the four squares, historic monuments great significance in our history.
